Alexa, this is one of the most used one to Rank a blog in internet. Though it is not a reliable one for traffic measurer, many bloggers and webmaster rely on Alexa for improving their rank to attract advertiser for their business.
Alexa rank is mainly calculated on the basic of how much of visitors visits your blog using Alexa toolbar. So other visitors wont be calculated for ranking. It clearly prove Alexa is a rough estimation of a blog.

If u view any site through your Alexa toolbar then you are supporting their site indirectly to increase their Alexa rank.

I think Alexa rank and PR and all those other things are just an obsession. Most visitors don't even know what they are. I think it best to concentrate on getting more visits and readers. Just my input on the matter.

Yep, an Alexa widget placed on the site certainly helps to increase the rank..also keeping a good amount of post frequency helps to do.
For Example : – My blog is only 20-25 days old since I'm posting daily on it, Everyday I see an increase an Increase in the rankings.

I partially agree with Drew. Traffic is the most important thing for a blog. But PR, backlinks etc are also somethings that are essential for a blog to rank well. Also for many services to approve our site, alexa rank and PR are two among the main factors. For example, I got disapproved for Buy Sell Ads just because I have low alexa rank.

I absolutely agree that these tips help in increasing the rank, but after you are under 100K the competition gets really tough and then only good content and regular readers ( lot of them ) will help in increasing the rank.

Why Can’t i register at alexa? I put in al the reqired information repeatedly and check to see if all was correct which it is, but yet an X lettering appears and the pages does not process and not explanation is given of what is wrong

I found many tips to improve the alexa ranking on the internet, but I have to say I’ve chosen the quick and easy way to improve the ranking of my team’s site.
A few people recommended http://www.alexage.com to improve Alexa ranking.

DO be VERY NICHE in your selection of keywords and your target market.
